Founded in 1947, Kandalore has long been regarded as one of the leading traditional summer camps in Canada providing the best of both canoe tripping and in-camp activities. Kandalore prides itself on its warm and supportive community where children are made to feel included in the camp culture. The supportive nature of the camp allows for the campers to try new activities and develop new skills with the help of caring staff members. Kandalore operates as a summer camp in the summer months and an Outdoor Education Centre hosting school groups from September to June.

 For over 30 years, the Kandalore OEC has been providing quality outdoor recreation and education programs for schools and youth groups. As a year-round OEC, we host over 3000 visitors per year. We also work with businesses, agencies, educators, and other adult organizations offering unique and customized programs. The Kandalore OEC caters to participants from grade five to 12, as well as College and University students. Our program encourages participants to discover personal strengths, practice problem-solving and decision-making skills in a fun and challenging outdoor environment.

Job Summary

The Program Director is responsible for the coordination, supervision, and development of the OEC programs at Kandalore. This role includes supervision of staff, program planning, logistics management, and direct communication with visiting groups to ensure a high-quality experience. The role continues year-round, with additional responsibilities during the shoulder seasons.
 
The Program Director oversees the daily operations of the OEC programs, ensuring an organized and engaging experience for participants. Responsibilities include: develop program schedules, arrange cabin accommodations and meal requirement. Assign and manage duties, schedules, and time off for staff while assisting with the OEC Director on hiring, training, and staff development. The role also involves maintaining program equipment and resources, effective program inventory, managing social media presence, and ensuring exceptional service delivery. Additional responsibilities include conducting evaluations, leading staff meetings, organizing events, supporting site maintenance, handling emergency situations.

What You Bring

• 4 + years of camping or outdoor education experience.
• Familiarity with industry standards and best practices
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Standard First Aid and CPR “C” required
• Minimum Bronze Cross required
• Pleasure Craft Operator Card an asset
• Wilderness Advanced First Aid an asset
• Class G Driver's License Required
• National Lifeguard or Swim Instructor Certification is an asset
• The Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT) Level 2 an asset

Job Outline

Camp Kandalore is seeking a positive, adaptable, and detail-oriented individual to join our Trip Department in the role of Trip Director. This individual will be responsible for managing the daily operations of our trip center and enjoys working in a team, problem-solving, and working in a fast-paced environment. The successful applicant will be positive, camper-focused, well-organized, and be a strong communicator, able to cope with a busy summer atmosphere.

Our Trip Director manages our trip center and motivates and leads our Guides in daily tasks and operations. Duties include leading daily meetings, managing incoming/outgoing trips, tracking the inventory, and ensuring integration of our Guides and Tripper Apprentices into the Trip Center and Camp Life.

This position includes subsidized training, access to pro-deals, room and board, canoe trip and management experience, and a fantastic summer at camp

Minimum Qualifications:

• Certified with Wilderness First Responder (Kandalore offers course in the spring)
• Certified with Swift Water Rescue Technician (Kandalore offers course in the spring)
• Bronze Cross or higher is mandatory and no exceptions can be made
• Experience leading canoe trips in remote settings
• Experience with white water canoeing
• Management and Supervisory experience is an asset
• Class G Ontario Driver's License
• Experience driving a trailer is an asset

Responsibilities Include:

• Facilitate daily meetings in trip center. Attending senior staff meetings
• Ensure positive morale and team building of the Trip Department
• Manage Trip Kits and Inventory. Submit purchase requests to AD CTO
• With AD CTO facilitates Tripper Training and Senior Staff Training
• Ensure completion of camper debriefs and submit to AD CTO
• Support opening and closing procedures
• Occasionally lead Core and Explorer trips as required
• Take lead on Evacuations and Contacts when AD CTO is off
• Track boat and gear maintenance and repairs
• Support the Shaq and ensure trip kitchen is clean and organized

Camp Kandalore is seeking whitewater canoe guides to lead 4 – 12-day wilderness trips with campers ages 12 – 16 on rivers in Ontario and Quebec. Based on experience, canoe trip guide candidates may be considered to lead our Explorer Program, 21 to 24-day long river trip.

Job Outline 

The successful applicant will work to facilitate impactful experiences for our campers through canoe tripping. This individual will be directly responsible for the safety, enjoyment and learning of all of the participants and co-staff on the trip. This individual will be enthusiastic, camper-centric, team-oriented and able to cope with a busy camp atmosphere.

Our Guides ensure the physical and emotional well-being of our campers and staff while they are on trip. Duties include assessing and managing risk, ensuring a culture of safety and inclusivity, administering first aid, managing behavioral issues, and facilitating outdoor educational programming.

This position includes subsidized training, access to pro-deals, room and board, canoe trip experience, and a fantastic summer at camp. 

Responsibilities include:

• Review camper med-forms with the nursing team.
• Engage in camp life, activities, and special programs.
• Complete post trip documentation: Staff, Counsellor, LIT evaluations, Damaged gear, Incident reports, etc.
• Contacting camp for any risk management, behavioural, or route support.
•  Review camper dietary and ensure supplementation. 
• Keep accurate trip log and submit to Trip Director. 
• Deliver Kandalore's programming to campers both on trips and while in camp.
•  Being flexible to changing schedules.
• Following risk management procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

Our counsellors support, inspire, and care about campers. The age range of our campers is 6-16 years old and the camp is divided into three sections - Prep Juniors (6-11), Inters (12-13), and Seniors (14-16). Counsellors are directly responsible for a cabin group of 8-10 campers each session with a co-counsellor. Our counsellors report to their section head and throughout the day facilitate various program activities.

Minimum Qualifications 

• Camp experience is an asset
• Coaching and experience working with youth is an asset
• Standard First-Aid with CPR-C
• Bronze Cross Lifeguard certification or higher

Responsibilities Include

• Care, supervision and mentorship of campers ages 6-16
• Facilitate camp activities and programs
• Join your cabin group on canoe trips from 1-12 days in length
• Join all-camp events and have an active presence in camp life
• Complete appropriate documentation throughout each session

Job Outline 

As a Tripper Apprentice, you will spend one month as a Counsellor, inspiring and supporting our campers aged 6-15, and another month immersed in the Trip Department, honing your skills in outdoor adventure.
 
Our Counsellors support, inspire, and care about campers. The camp is divided into three sections prep juniors (6-11), inters (12-13), seniors (14-15). Counsellors are directly responsible for a cabin group of 8-10 campers each session with a co-counsellor. Our counsellors report to their section head and throughout the day facilitate various program activities.
 
Our Tripper Apprentices will prepare for and lead our prep junior canoe trips, ranging from 2-3 days. On these trips our TA’s will be responsible for the physical and emotional wellbeing of our campers and staff. Duties include assessing and managing risk, ensuring a culture of safety and inclusivity, administering first aid, managing behavioral issues, and facilitating outdoor educational programming.
This position includes subsidized training, access to pro-deals, room and board, canoe trip experience, and a fantastic summer at camp. 

Minimum Qualifications  
·       Camp experience is an asset
